Solar Inverter Duty Transformers, Built for Renewable Power

Solar power generation has a variable and intermittent operating profile. Solar Inverter Duty Transformers (IDTs) are designed specifically for this application, providing the step-up interface between solar inverters and the medium-voltage collection network.

MDP Power Tech holds the ability to design, manufacture and supply solar transformers as per project requirements. Our Solar Inverter Duty Transformers cover a capacity range of 2 MVA to 17.6 MVA and can be developed with variable input voltage configurations for solar PV applications.

MDP Power Tech Solar Inverter Duty Transformer

The active components are assembled, dried under controlled conditions, and securely tanked to maintain structural integrity and moisture resistance. High-grade CRGO core laminations and copper or aluminium windings are used to support stable electrical performance under fluctuating solar generation conditions.

Each unit undergoes rigorous routine and type testing as per applicable IS standards. This testing supports reliable step-up performance, grid compatibility, and long-term durability for solar power plant installations.

Our engineering team can work with customers to develop the transformer around the project's inverter configuration, required capacity, voltage levels, site conditions, and application-specific requirements.

Designed Around the Solar Generation Profile

Solar PV output changes with solar irradiance, creating a variable transformer loading profile throughout the operating day. A Solar Inverter Duty Transformer is therefore designed around the electrical characteristics of inverter-based generation rather than treated as a generic grid transformer.

Variable Loading

Designed around changing solar generation and the associated operating profile of PV plants.

Reliable Power Conversion

Engineered to provide dependable step-up transformation from inverter output toward the medium-voltage collection system.

Project-Specific Configuration

Capacity, voltage and other transformer parameters can be developed around the project's electrical architecture.

Manufacturing Process

Every Solar Inverter Duty Transformer passes through a controlled, process-driven manufacturing sequence focused on electrical performance, mechanical integrity and long-term reliability.

High-grade CRGO laminations are assembled to form the magnetic circuit, while copper or aluminium windings are manufactured and insulated according to the required electrical configuration. The active components are then assembled with controlled mechanical integrity.

The active assembly is dried under controlled conditions before being securely tanked. Tanking provides structural integrity and moisture resistance, helping the completed transformer withstand the demands of long-term solar plant operation.

MDP's manufacturing approach follows the same controlled core, winding, assembly, drying, tank fabrication and inspection sequence used across its transformer manufacturing operations.

Testing & Quality

Quality assurance is built into the manufacturing process from active-part preparation through final testing. MDP Power Tech states that its Solar Inverter Duty Transformers undergo rigorous routine and type testing as per applicable IS standards.

Controlled vacuum drying is used to remove residual moisture from the insulation and windings before oil impregnation. The tank is filled with high-dielectric-strength transformer oil under controlled conditions to support insulation and cooling performance.

Routine and applicable type testing covers electrical and performance checks such as insulation resistance, winding resistance, voltage ratio, losses, temperature rise and high-voltage withstand, depending on the applicable transformer specification and test programme.

MDP's broader transformer manufacturing documentation records type testing through NABL-accredited laboratories including CPRI and ERTO, India, for applicable designs.
